Depends . . .: Depends upon where you're running, i think. If you're on a track where it's clean, than it's probably ok to run barefoot. But if you're on the streets where there's stuff everywhere, i'd recommend shoes. Of course, there's a movement (no pun intended) but the consensus on benefit vs risk is not clear cut. Different opinion : You will hear from both sides as this is a controversial topic in healthcare. My personal selection is with shoes to not only prevent major cuts etc but a good hoe will limit pronation and many other things that can cause more severe damage. As a runner myself, i wear shoes!

Sneakers are best.: While there has been a bit of a trend towards barefoot running lately, it's best to provide your feet with adequate cushioning and support if you wish to continue running for the long haul. Running barefoot or with shoes on would lead to greater impact upon landing your feet to the ground and greater wear upon your joints in the long term.
