Need Information: Complex issue , control of sepsis is the first order, before chemotherapy , abscess must be drained , most likely you have recto-sigmoid resection , with end colostomy ( hartman's ) the rectal stump may be leaking to cause the problem , speak to the surgeon will explain to you , along with plan of treatment.

Until abscess contro: Usually you docs will wait about 1 month after major surgery, and the IV antiobiotics are usually until infection is controlled ( normal WBC count ant resolution of fever ANS signs of infection are gone. The chemo reduces your ability to fight infection.

Drain abscess: You have had a colon cancer removed and a colostomy. There is a pelvic abscess needing drainage then allow complete healing before proceeding to chemotherapy. This is important because chemotherapy itself is challenging. It will kill cells that are multiplying fast like cancer cells and healing cells like fibroblasts. You need to heal first.
