STOP SMOKING!: First, yes, stop smoking! smoking causes cancer, and its incidence is on the rise. You should stop smoking regardless of whether or not it caused or is contributing to the ulcer. Take this as a wakeup call to stop. Then make sure you see a dentist (or physician) to accurately diagnose the ulcer. Any lesion that lasts two weeks or more needs to be diagnosed.

Gum sore: First, stop smoking. It is certainly one factor in oral soft tissue disease, and the most serious change, oral cancer, results from its cumulative damage on oral tissue. Most 'gum' sores are simple ulcers which have many theories as to their cause. They take 10 to 14 days to resolve. Sometimes a short course of a prescription rinse helps for severe or multiples. If it doesn't heal get exam8ined.
