Avoid carbs: Avoiding concentrated sweats is most important, but eating fewer carbs/starches is important if you are overweight, as losing weight is very important to help control diabetes. Meats, chicken, fish, salads, vegetables, nuts, beans, cheese are all okay. The key for type 2 diabetes is eating less, losing weight, no matter what you eat.

Avoid processed carb: You want to ease the strain on the pancreas as it's struggling to keep up with the need for insulin. If you are overweight, you want to do everything you can to lose the extra fat. Fat is what causes Insulin resistance. As you lose excess fat, you need less insulin. You can also help out your pancreas by eating less processed or refined carbohydrates, like bread, pasta, cakes, cookies cereal.
