May be: It is not a good idea to try to gain weight, especially by eating sugar. If you are otherwise healthy, being skinny is not a bad thing. As you grow older you will gain weight and look back fondly at these days when you could eat and not get fat. Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco or alcohol in any form.

Certainly!: Diabetes is caused by higher blood sugars, which can be caused by high sugar intake. For healthy weight gain I'd recommend healthy fats like olive oil, avocado, almonds, as well as increased protein, like fish and lean meats or chicken. If you want to eat carbohydrates like sugar, use ones that are whole foods, like potatoes, rice or carrots.
