Air in intravenous: You are having a gallbladder removal and liver biopsy. You have a patent foramen ovale (pfo). You biggest risk for the pfo during surgery is an air embolism traveling from the right side to the left side of the body. Talk to your anasthesiologist. He/she will take extra precautions to prevent this. Care also when insufflating the abdomen.
