ANXIETY: Xanax (alprazolam) is usefulin reducing anxiety. However, if anxiety is a problem, the cause of the problem is important -because when you know how something works and why, you can dosomething about it. Work out what this is about in therapy and maybe you won't need the xanax (alprazolam).

Mostly for panic disorder: Other uses include specific phobias, eg flying phobias, dentist phobias, and even sexual phobias. Xanax sometimes has to be used long-term, but is not the ideal drug for this. If i need to treat anxiety medicinally long-term, i will generally select Klonopin for social anxiety and panic anxiety, and if the antidepressants, therapy and Buspar (buspirone) do not work i will use long-acting valium for generalized.

Xanax: It is prescribed to treat Anxiety/ panic disorder. I try to avoid prescribing this class of medications as it can lead to development of tolerance.
