ANXIETY: Xanax (alprazolam) is usefulin reducing anxiety. However, if anxiety is a problem, the cause of the problem is important -because when you know how something works and why, you can dosomething about it. Work out what this is about in therapy and maybe you won't need the xanax (alprazolam).

Xanax is best used as a short term medication, not a long term solution, therefore therapy is very helpful in most cases.

Mostly for panic disorder: Other uses include specific phobias, eg flying phobias, dentist phobias, and even sexual phobias. Xanax sometimes has to be used long-term, but is not the ideal drug for this. If i need to treat anxiety medicinally long-term, i will generally select Klonopin for social anxiety and panic anxiety, and if the antidepressants, therapy and Buspar (buspirone) do not work i will use long-acting valium for generalized.

Xanax: It is prescribed to treat Anxiety/ panic disorder. I try to avoid prescribing this class of medications as it can lead to development of tolerance.

Very dangerous.: Both are controlled substances and should only be taken under the advice physician. Xanax (alprazolam) or Alprazolam is a benzodiazepine medication, is habit forming and can result in sign. Sedation.. Lortab, an opioid, is habit-forming and can result in sign sedation. In larger doses both can cause difficulty breathing, and when used IV in combination are common cause of accidental death by overdose.

Rationale???: Why do you want to start taking xanax, (alprazolam) do you possess panic reactions, anxiety, etc? Suggest you see your doctor, and if you need psychological support or evaluation, a referral can be made. However, use of any mood affecting medicine should always be the result of careful evaluation and consideration.

You bet: Your doctor gave you the medication for a very good reason. It is your choice whether to comply. Recommend contacting your doc, and telling him/her your above confession, and figure out what would be best for your condition.

Not recommended: And the person you should be asking is the doctor who prescribed it. In general, alcohol should be avoided in people who are on other sedating drugs. In addition, if you are a regular drinker, it may be exacerbating the anxiety (or for that matter even being a cause of it) that you are being treated with Alprazolam for. In some people, combo of alcohol/benzos can be very dangerous and cause harm.
