What exactly is the problem with staying on benzodiazepines for life?

Increased risks: There are risks of dependency including increased dysfunction with either relationships or work as well as the possibility of increased risk of depression that some describe. There is also a higher chance for respiratory suppression when combined with other medications or alcohol and this could lead to death if severe.
