What's the difference between cancer, neoplasia and tumor?

See below: Cancer is a lay term for malignant tumors neoplasia is any new growth, benign or malignant. Tumor means a swelling, from any cause, including benign and malignant tumors. Generally this term is the same as neoplasia.
