Mind and body: Heart rate is not supposed to be constant. If you're really observant, you may discover your heart beats faster when you breathe in, slower when you breathe out. A little muscular work can speed the heart by increasing metabolic demand / carbon dioxide output, but it's even more likely that you've actually learned to speed it a bit by anticipating.
