Low sodium: You have what is known as a "dilutional hyponatremia" (d), "hyponatremia" means "low sodium". Your sodium (n) goes down because the same amount of n is found in an increased amount of fluid in the body. This is found in patients who have edema, or who takie in a large amount of water. If one has a dilutional hyponatremia and excess body water is eliminated, the sodium will increase as there is the same amount of sodium in a lessor amount of body water.
