A member asked:

Does lack of "good" bacteria in colon increase risk for appendicitis?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Appendicitis is caused by a blockage of the appendiceal lumen (usually with a fecolith). This, in turn, causes bacterial stasis and overgrowth (bacteria that is normally found in the colon), lymphatic and vascular blockage from distention and finally perforation if it is not removed in time.
