HIV Exposure: First, if one has an acute exposure one should not wait at all. We only have a 72 hour window to prevent infection. Second, if there is a high risk exposure one can get a viral RNA test after 21 days that is 100% accurate. Third: the antibody testing that is routine for HIV can miss infection for up to six months after exposure.
