A member asked:

How long should i wait to get an accurate hiv test after (maybe) got exposed to it? and how long does the test itself take to give back the results?

See below: The test results can be available in less than an hour for a screening test. Confirmatory test may take a couple of days. You should get tested now and repeat the test in six months.

Rapid testing HIV: You can get oraquick otc, a home oral test that is quite accurate, and then follow up with a more detailed antibody test at 4-6 weeks and again in three months. There are rare individuals who do not become positive until 6 mos. If you want to spend the money there is an RNA pcr which will be definitive if negative at 4 wks. Make sure, however, that you also get tested for other stds.
