It is often part: People with autism are frequently 'more sensitive' to many things. Direct eye contact is often perceived as 'too intense'. And thins make social interaction more difficult because direct eye contact is a part of communication and seen as a sign of respectfulness. This might be worth working on in a counseling relationship. Develop strategies that can help you to become more comfortable with it.
