Myopia: Nearsightedness or myopia is very common. It is not uncommon for us to see patients who are -10 diopters or more. Be sure you have a dilated retinal exam every year and you know what retinal detachment signs look like (burst of black floaters, flashing lights, new floaters, curtain coming down over your vision); consider polycarbonate glasses for protection especially during sports.
