NSAIDS: Take aspirin, tylenol, (acetaminophen) Ibuprofen or aleve for pain: put some ice cubes in a ziplock bag and apply to the side of your face for 20 minutes. Leave face alone for 20 minutes, then put ice back on again. Do this on again, off again for as long as needed. You might also try rinsing with warm salt water.

Otc medication: Alleve is available over the counter. A prescription dose of alleve is two tablets. Use this only if you can take ibuprofen. Otherwise take tylenol (acetaminophen). Try ice or heat if that seems to relive pain. Once you are comfortable try to get some sleep.

Take both: Taking 400 mg Ibuprofen with 500mg tylenol (acetaminophen) every 4-6hr can be as effective as vicodin a prescription narcotic. Try using hot or cold on the area. One or the other will often help.
