Maybe: Stomach cancer has poor prognosis unless it is diagnosed and treated at an early stage. Usually weight gain after curative resection is a good sign, but at a late stage the gain can be due to water accumulation inside the abdominal cavity (malignant ascites) in which case it is not good. Ascites can be diagnosed on physical exam and confirmed with an ultrasound.
