Why a "functional...: This term is interesting, as it defines a particular philosophy in orthodontics that is based on something other than research, findings and conclusion. Promises of "no surgery" to produce a good bite and consequent chin at ages older than 11-13 are prone to failure. An orthodontist, with recognized training would not offer this as he understands it likely will not work. See an orthodontist.

No such "thing": As another doctor said, any good orthodontist uses functional appliances as a tool in their tool belt, but someone who claims this is all they do is a snake oil salesman plain and simple. See a board certified orthodontist and discuss all your options.

ALL ARE TRAINED: All orthodontists are dentists first and all understand function and cosmetics. All well trained orthos consider both as necessary treatment.

Phone book: Look for the Dental Section, and the subcategory that lists Orthodontic Specialists. All Orthodontic Specialists are trained in Functional Jaw Orthopedics. Functional treatment is at best modestly successful for growing tweens/teens, and totally unsuccessful for Adults. Don't you think if this worked well that all Orthodontists would have adopted this approach for all their patients? Snake oil
