A member asked:

I am thinking, can fdg-18 that is used for a pet/ct of your brain, cause muscle burning? i can trace it back to that point where it started. any possibility?

It's possible,,: This is apparently possible as about 75% is converted to a non-radioactive form in the tissues, so it may be a reason for the muscle burning. It should stop after all the fdg-18 is converted to a non radioactive form and eliminated. If it doesn't it would be wise to see your doctor as there may be another reason for it. Best of luck.

No: This would not cause the symptoms you describe. The FDG is simple glucose that your body uses all the time with an attached isotope that rapidly decays and leaves no trace.

No: After the FDG decays. The fluorine atom turns into a heavy oxygen atom o-18. This allows the FDG to become a normal glucose which is rapidly metabolized by the cell. The half life for the radioactive fluorine is only 110 minutes so after a day virtually all of the FDG would have been eliminated.
