Yes: Nerves start from the spine and go to the front of the body a little bit slanted (lower in front) and so a pain in the back can be felt in the front. Like you surmise, there are many causes of pain. Have a good exam and find out because if anything, a little physical therapy may be all you need. On the other hand if more severe, other modalities of treatment can be considered.
