Severe Sun Burn: Consult a doctor for sunburn treatment if: the sunburn is severe — with blisters — and covers a large portion of your body. The sunburn is accompanied by a high fever or severe pain. You've developed a skin infection from scratching your sunburned skin. You have a severe sunburn that doesn't begin to improve within a few days.

Thanks for asking!: Yes, you should see a doctor. Lidocaine should be reserved for small areas to avoid toxicity.

Good idea: It is good idea to see a dr if your symptoms last more then a few hours, maybe something else is going on or you need quality treatment. Do not delay or go to ER.
