A member asked:

I have naproxen , motrin, what would be best to take for elbow pain util i see a doctor?

Matter of opinion: The advantage of Naproxen is that it lasts a bit longer than Ibuprofen (motrin). Naproxen should be taken every 12 hours; Ibuprofen every 6 - 8 hours. Some people find one works better for them than the other. Personally, Naproxen seems to work better for musculoskeletal pain, but it upsets my stomach.

Decision: Naproxen is longer acting medication, contact your physician and discuss your pain with him. He/ she can offer different solution.

They are equal: The difference is naprosyn (naproxen) last at least 2-3 times longer than motrin, so you don't have to take it as often.Alternate them both, and see if you have a preference.

The best: Is what has worked for you in the past for other aches and pains. There are many nsaids for several reasons. One is that everyone is not the same and thus some do better with one than another . Stick with what you know works safely for you . Use these medications with food and so not exceed rec dose without a doctors orders.
