Could a horsefly bite cause hives/welting? i think i have 2-3 bites in one area on my hip. the area has swelled up and burns.

Hives vs infection: The more itchy, the more likely allergy, .The more sore with drainage, the more likely infection ( which would be an indication for antibiotics).

Hateful Horseflies: A horsefly actually slices off skin when it bites you with it's scimitars. It then licks your blood. This causes a histamine release with immediate swelling (bump) in the area which is painful & itches. It can trigger an allergic reaction with hives and wheezing. Allergic reactions could also cause swelling of airway, lips, mouth or tongue with difficulty breathing, dizziness and generalized.
