Criticizing mom: I don't know specifically why your mother is criticizing others -- we'd need to ask her about it. However, many people who criticize others are very uncomfortable with themselves. They often point out the same flaws in others that they're anxious or ashamed about in themselves. Also, some depressed people have very negative outlooks, because the illness brings an unbalanced point of view.

But we don't much consider the survival value of detaching ourselves from those who relentlessly criticize us, hurt us. Accepting their limitations can be painful. (it can feel like we're losing something.) consider visualizing ur mom's critical words as flying shards of glass & imagine urself wearing a shield that protects u from them.
