My endocrinologist said that my ana is high because of my thyroid and says that it might develop into hypothyroidisim in future. he gives me no treatment. it makes no sense. whatshould i do?

See below: One does not go thyroid medication unless thyroid function is abnormal. An ANA and antithyroid peroxidase antibody do not measure function. To take thyroid medication when not needed can cause osteoporosis, tachycardia and other complications.

If you have: Thyroiditis, or thyroid inflammation, it could lead to an underactive thyroid at some time in the future. But, if your thyroid is function properly now, there is no treatment indicated. Brand name T4 replacement would be indicated if your thyroid enlarges significantly or begins to fail.

Autoimmune disease: ANA is a antibody to the nucleus of the cell and is commonly a screening test for lupus depending on the pattern and titres may need more detailed test though the commonest cause of under active thyroid is autoimmune it is tested by an antibody test called tpo and presence may predate thyroid failure.
