Unknown: Some things may help decrease keloid formation like pressure earrings, steroid injections or silicone sheeting. If you are prone to developing keloids there is always a chance for keloid formation after any piercing or trauma.
Dr. Alexander Nein
Plastic Surgery 35 years experience
No way to guarantee: If you have a history of keloids, there is certainly a risk of developing keloids from piercings of other skin injuries. There is no guaranteed way to prevent them. If you don't have a history of keloids its less likely you'll get them in any event.
