Depends: If a 14 year old is assessed by a psychiatrist and treatment is considered appropriate, the antidepressants are a valuable product. Close monitoring and followup is needed. I refer such evaluations to a psychiatrist who has the experience needed to select an appropriate med and recognize those patients where side effects emerge early.I believe few generalists have the training to do so for teens.
