A member asked:

Should anti- depressants be prescribed to kids under the age of 18?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Can be life saving: As long as the kid is assessed and followed by someone with the background, training and time to monitor childhood mental illness, antidepressants are fine. They can be life saving and are at least life altering. There only a few antidepressants with long term experience available. I refer these cases out because i feel the psychiatrists have the most experience selecting and using the meds.
