See below: Some of the current recommendations are for IV ancef / cefazolin instead. Although there are reports of cross sensitivity to cephalosporns like these 10% or less if one has a penicillin allergy. In my experience I have seen less incidence than what is reported. Iv Clindamycin is another option although more resistance. Check with your OB to see about this.

See your doctor: It is not an issue for self treatment. Please see your doctor to establish that you do have the infection, if you do, your doctor can prescribe an alternative antibiotic.

Go in early: There are alternative antibiotics that are used for group b strep positive moms in labor. However, with some of these, the timing interval is longer than with pcn. Since the OB (and we peds) like the mom to get two doses in mom before delivery of the baby for optimal protection, it is more important that you get in to the hospital early in labor so the appropriate number of doses can get done.
