Absolutely: Every dentist has a different level of expertise, and if your current dentist feels s/he can treat you, then the choice is yours. I personally extract many wisdom teeth, but i also refer many out to local specialists when i feel the potential complications surpass my experience.

Absolutely!: Dentists are the doctors you go to in order to have teeth removed. I would think twice about having anyone other than a dentist remove any teeth.

That depends: That depends on how experienced the general dentist is and how difficult your wisdom teeth will be. A qualified general dentist can perform simple wisdom tooth extractions with no problem. Impacted and/or infected wisdom teeth should be extracted by an oral surgeon to minimize the chance of complications, as they have more extensive training.

Gatekeeper: Your general dentist is a gatekeeper, evaluating and treating all types of dental problems. If your dentist is comfortable doing the procedure, go with it. He will refer to specialist if he feels problem is complex. Ultimately it's your decision, however. If you feel more comfortable seeing a specialist, ask your dentist for a referral. Don't worry about hurt feelings.
