Local factors: Inflamed muscle or tendons leading to those extremities can still be intermittently compressing the nerve. Sometimes it could be simply the way you are shifting or moving. Knowing that the roots at the spine are clear is good. Because the pain is intermittent, consider a local factor. See if a stretch or massage makes a difference.
