Your body will: Break down fat for energy as you lose weight unless you lose at an acellerated rate like with cancer and poor nutrition. Fat is the preferential fuel as long as adequate nutrition is maintained.

You lose both: You lose both fat and muscle on any weight loss program. In order to lose less muscle, you must exercise.
