A member asked:

Do teeth feel "weaker" after braces are removed? if so, for how long? braces removed from mandibular premolars to premolars. teeth don't feel natural

This is normal: After the braces are removed the teeth will be slightly mobile for a period of time. Even the most passive archwire exerts some forces on the teeth. Wear your retainers. In a month or so your teeth and bite will feel very natural.

Teeth will be mobile: The movement of teeth with orthodontics is producing pressure from brace adjustments or from spring forces. These forces produces a remodeling of the bone. This bone change and stretching of the ligaments will cause tooth mobility for up to about a week after braces are removed.

Yes: Teeth are moved with braces by applying force to the boney socket that the tooth sits in. After the braces are removed the bone continues to mature and while that is happening the teeth may feel loose. Check back with your orthodontist at your next visit and tell him/her your concerns, .
