Guarded: I'm giving a very guarded answer online because it really depends on specifics. If you are 100% certain about the true gestational age then no heartbeat is bad news. If the dates are only 'good guesses, ' if it's a abdominal ultrasound or if you are heavy or have a bulky uterus, there is still room for error. Followup ultrasound is indicated in any case.
