Get dental treatment: It is very important that you have your abcess treated. It will not go away without treatment. If you don't treat this it will effect the rest of your body because your immune system is working to fight this and it can't. This leaves you compromised in fighting other infections. You may feel tired and weak because of this.

Only drained: Perhaps the first time they treated by draining the abscess and antibiotic but not removing the source. If they told you to see a dentist they may have expected you to have the source treated by the dentist. Either a root canal treatment or extraction. It is also possible there was more than one problem and they knew without dental follow up another problem would develop. See a dentist.

Yes: Until the underlying cause of the infection is addressed and eliminated, dental symptoms are usually recurrent. Antibiotics and surgical drainage help relieve suffering but are not solutions in and of themselves. You really do need to follow up with a dental exam.
