Neither: Artificial insemination does not use a needle. We use a soft catheter attached to a small syringe that is usually about 5-10 ml. The catheter is the important part. We have the woman fill her bladder to straighten the uterus and allow easier insertion of the cath without trauma. We also guide the cath with ultrasound. These are not always necessary but they allow us a painless process. Best wishes.
