Can there be such a thing as alcohol-induced schizophrenia?

No, but: Alcohol abuse can exacerbate symptoms in someone with schizophrenia. In addition acute withdrawal from alcohol can result in hallucinations and delirium tremens if the drinking is severe.

Alcohol induced: There is an alcohol-induced psychotic disorder with delusions and hallucinations, but it's not the same as schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is an independent and chronic mental illness on its own -- with a different longitudinal course and usually family history also. Alcohol could certainly worsen symptoms in someone with schizophrenia.
