A member asked:

If i were to go to a hospital and say you can't breathe do they immediately check for cf and asthma?

Not necessary: They immediately check your blood oxygen level (with a monitor and or blood test) to see if you need extra. The feeling that you can't breathe can be generated by a multitude of issues. From lung disease to blood clots. An asthma attack would be rather obvious to most doc's and er staff. CF would rarely receive consideration in an otherwise healthy appearing patient.

Airway and circul: The first assessment is to ensure that your airway and circulation are normal. They will take a history and perform a physical exam for conditions which may cause shortness of breath.
