Inferior vena cava: Ivc stands for inferior vena cava. The ivc is a large vein that returns blood (largely deoxygenated blood) from the lower portion of the body to the right side of the heart. The heart then pumps that blood to the lungs so that the blood can pick up oxygen and go out to the body again. Dilated and non collapsing means that the ivc is open and perhaps slightly enlarged. Hope that this helps.
