A member asked:

What does a dilated ivc indicate in an otherwise normal echocardiogram? the patient is a 26 year old female with no other health concerns?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

IVC is the inferior vena cava which passes behind the intestines and conveys blood from the lower body to the heart. Any dilatation may indicate obstruction of some sort before it reaches the heart. Not all tests are accurate and this needs to be further evaluated by a vascular surgeon, in the absence of any symptoms.
