Ankle Sprain: Pt for an ankle sprain can depend on how recent the injury occurred and if there is any associated injury such as fracture. For a "classic" lateral ankle sprain, price, principles apply. Protection, rest, ice, compression, and elevation initially. Then range of motion, and strengthening occurs as you progress. Followed by proprioceptive rehab and return to specific activity progression.

Time since injury!: In the acute stage of an ankle sprain, you experience pain, swelling and bruising. It is a matter of calming things down with rest, ice, etc.. After some time, a couple of weeks or so, stiffness, residual swelling, and some pain, are common. In this stage, no iice. (ice causes the soft tissue to contract). Warm therapy, therapeutic ultrasound , e-stimulation and manual stretching, will hasten.
