Lymphoedema: Make sure a venous reflux study precedes any sclerotherapy. If you have either superficial or deep venous reflux, sclerotherapy results will only be temporary, a few months. The spider veins (telangiectasias) may be telling a "deeper" story...

Pain and bruising: I agree with drs. Roberts and wright. It is important to know that you don't have any underlying untreated venous reflux that is causing your spider veins. If you have no underlying trouble then the purpose of compression after treatment is to reduce pain, swelling, and bruising. There is little conclusive evidence that it does any more than that.

I am asking t: The same question why do you have to bring it? If your physician is using compression he/she should give yo the bandages. If to compress, stocking is much better. Personally, for the last 25 years I do not use any form of compression for spider veins. Not a mistake to use it, inconvenient and not needed.

Compression: Sclerotherapy works by pushing the blood out of the spider veins and the injected solution then irritates the vein wall so that it sticks together and then dissolves. The purpose of the compression is twofold-keep the solution adherent to the vein and help reduce bruising. I usually recommend 48 hours of compression and i supply the ace bandages. Compression hose can be purchased in my office.
