The safest thing: To do with pathologically proven benign nodules that demonstrate that kind of interval growth is repeat fna biopsy. The procedure has a very low complication rate and most patients find it to be painless. Other measures might include TSH measurement and, if it is depressed, a radionuclide scan to see if the nodule(s) are "hot" or producing excessive thyroid hormone. These nodules are benign.
