Phobias: First i would assume you may need to find a therapist who specializes in treating phobias. And, then it is with practice and experience that this better habit become part of your daily life. Connecting with other humans can be a very spiritual experience and make your life richer.

Fear of Speaking: You have likely conditioned yourself to think you are not competent enough to interest people, perhaps your self consciousness comes from earlier experiences. Anxiety is mostly based on perception, start improving by taking small chances. For instance make eye contact with people you pass in the hall, say hello when your looking at people, say good morning with eye contact etc.
