Warm gargles: It is very common to have very sore throat due to flu/viral infections..Warm saline gargles, cepacol lezenges or any throat spray may be helpful.

What have u thought: Gargling with saline solution, using over-the-counter medication to alleviate the tenderness, antiinflammatories like tylenol, (acetaminophen) and other simple methods may be helpful but unlikely to completely alleviate your symptoms.
