Heel pain: Could be achilles tendinosis or tendinopathy. The achilles tendon connects the calf muscle to the heel bone. It lets you rise up on your toes and push off when you walk or run. The pain may come on gradually or may only occur when you walk or run. You may have less strength and range of movement in the ankle. Have your doctor check it out.

Sounds like a spur: Heel spurs do not only occur under the heel, as in the case of plantar fasciitis, but also on the back of the heel. However, some pain associated with such spurs is due to an inflamed bursa in this area. X-rays will confirm any bone involvement. It becomes a little more complex if there is spurring or calcification in the achilles tendon itself.
