Is 12 weeks on crutches long enough for a heel stress fracture to heal? it still hurts to walk on it. the mri showed a stress fracture in heel along with bone edema. help.

2 months : Stress fractures usually heal in 8 weeks. Pain may be from plantar fasciitis that occurred before the stress fracture. I would seek the opinion of your favorite podiatrist. Physical therapy and orthotics may be needed for complete relief.

Yes: 6-8 wks is all that is typically required for a stree fracture to heal. Most likely the bone is healed but the plantar fascia has tightened up due to non weightbearing and is now becoming inflamed. However if the bone has not healed you may have osteopenia, calcium or vitamin d deficiency. You should see your podiatrist.

Stress fracture: Usually takes less than 12 weeks, but you may have other issues. Consider poor bone quality, multiple stress fractures, achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, poor soft tissue quality, among others. See your orthopedic foot surgeon or your foot doctor.
