Eat less red meat: You can decrease the risk of gout from elevated uric acid by reducing the amount of red meat, seafood, beer, hard alcohol, and foods and drinks with high-fructose corn syrup in your diet. Low-fat dairy products and foods with complex carbohydrates (whole grains, brown rice, oats) also help. If you develop gout, additional medication may be needed.
