A member asked:

Can there be something over-the-counter you can give to kids to help with adhd?

None that work well: I've had a few parents go the stout coffee route when they wanted to avoid medications but that is in and out of the body so quickly that it has little benefit in the long run. Drinking during class for a 6 yo was a pain and they ran to the john a lot. Eventually all went on meds.

ADHD natural: Very few may benefit from antioxidants, diet changes or fish oil. Few of my patients noted slight improvement. Worth a try.

No: As yet there are no over the counter substances that have been proven effective for ADHD based on double blind controlled studies, which are the gold standard of proof in medicine.
